Decorative painting is the ancient craft of using paint to decorate the interiors and exteriors of residential and commercial dwellings. It is said to be where art meets money. The reasoning behind this is that it is a practical application of painting as a craft to one of the largest industries in the United States. Students are trained to apply their skills to a working business model as was done in the guilds of the 15th century.

Though the act of decorating objects and dwellings with paint can be traced back to prehistoric times, the classical form of decorative painting finds its roots around the Common Era sprouting from the Greek theater and scenic painting and its later application to Roman architecture.
